be like kakashi

ways of approaching your goals

1. the explorationist

playstyle: slow and explorational. would make mistakes on purpose to learn.

pros: useful for doing reruns. small possibility you find a new better path through iteration. it's fun and no pressure.

cons: slow on your first playthrough. might waste time learning useless concepts. tedious method of finding the best path in retrospect. iterative

2. the kakashi

playstyle: copies other peoples paths and discovers new information through investigation and problem solving. likes to apply theory into practice. needs critical thinking

pros: no time wasted in finding optimized paths. more efficient than explorationist at getting to the end goal. helps to quickly reach mastery, reducing the playstyle down to iteration and theory crafting.

cons: small chance to miss a more efficient way to do things in the beginning. might also be subject to building biases that'd be more difficult to remove than if you were exploring new paths without judgement.

3. the speedrunner

playstyle: uses already existing information and habits to reach the end goal as fast as possible

pros: speed. focused on perfect execution with minimal error making (good for reaching your goal as fast possible, bad for generating information).

cons: relies on already having high quality information and habits to reach the end goal efficiently. gets stuck when encountering something unknown. easily disheartened. prone to resets and therefore missing out on any new information. beginning focused.

if i were to categorize them by what they accomplish

  1. one is too focused on generating information

  2. one is focused on generating information and applying it

  3. one is too focused on using that information

verdict:

the kakashi wins. be like kakashi when you do things. don't fall into the habit of being too explorationist or too speedrunny.

here are signs to look out for to see if you're acting like the kakashi:

*that means being unfamiliar with something
